I’m still not sure what actually happened with the Doom comic though. Marvel postponed it because the artist had personal issues and so couldn’t finish it on time? And this has made people angry because…?
Partly because it was cancelled (not postponed), and partly because they waited until less than a month before the book was due to ship to announce it, but mainly because there are other people close to the project saying that the “there’s no art” excuse isn’t even close to true. It certainly doesn’t make any sense- if the artist hadn’t delivered any art for a series, why would you wait until weeks after it should have gone to press- let alone colouring and lettering- before announcing it wasn’t coming out? And why would you cancel it, rather than postponing it and getting a new artist? If it were true, then the announcement would have come much, much earlier, surely?
It seems obvious to me that the book was axed because it wasn’t expected to sell, and the editor who’s pet project it was is no longer with the company (he’s one of the guys who lost his job in the recent round of lay offs). The suggestion that it’s all Cloonan’s fault has two possible meanings- either it’s bullshit (which seems most likely) and someone at Marvel (or somewhere else in the chain that led to the story turning up on the internet) is a nasty lying fuckweasel, or it’s true and someone at Marvel is an incompetent amateur fuckwit.
